With a sigh, Nathaniel turned the corner and found the hallway that would lead him to his new room. This would be a new experience, he figured. He had gotten tired of his old living quarters away from the campus - his old roommates were seriously a pain in his ass - and he decided to have himself switched into the boys' dormitory that was located on the academy's grounds. He thought it would be a nice change, and maybe he would meet some new people that were actually worth his time and patience.
Locating the front door to his new dorm, Nate turned the key in the lock and pushed the door open into the room. He didn't see anyone, but taking a look around, he noticed that there were three rooms with a bathroom and a kitchen area. It seemed decent enough. Finding his room was easy, considering his name was hung up on the door. He chuckled and pulled it down, taking it with him into his new room. It was kind of small in comparison to his old room, but it would have to do. There was a small window on the far wall that overlooked part of the campus, and a closet was in place in the wall next to it. A dresser and a desk where on the third wall and his bed was on the wall closest to him, stripped of all its sheets.
With a sigh, he dropped his bags in the corner of the room and sat on the edge of the bed. The room needed some severe decorating, something he would start on within the next few days. He did, however, bring a few posters from his old room with him. He pulled his roll of tape and hung them around the room, the members of all his favorite bands seemingly staring down at him.
Grabbing one of the bigger bags, he pulled out the sheets for the bed and threw them on the ground. As he made his bed, he wondered about how to approach his new roommates. Was he just supposed to knock on their doors and introduce himself? That was so unlike Nathaniel, but he figured that he shouldn't be rude to the guys he was going to be sharing a living space with for the next few months.
He pulled the black comforter over the rest of his bed and stood back to admire his work. With a shrug, he threw the now-empty bag in the floor of his closet. And then, he walked into the living room, looking between the two other doors. Picking the one closest to him, he walked up and knocked on the door a couple of times, ruffling his hair around with his other hand in a sort of nervous manner.

A knock on the door interrupted his thought process.
Not normally a punishable offense, it was odd seeing him get ticked over something trivial. However....
Battling Gary mother f&*(in Oak in Pokemon Yellow for the title of Champion was not a trivial matter. It was SERIOUS BUSINESS. Of course, he wasn't really mad.
After all, Gary was at full strength and his team was about dead anyway, so he was probably going to lose.
Brandon sighed heavily, and cut the GBA off, having saved his game before the fight. It was then that the thought him that he had a visitor, and that was a rare occurrence. He stood up, brushed his clothes down in an attempt to look like he hadn't just marathoned through 4 hours of straight video game playing.
His dorm was the one constant in his life. He had never left it since he had enrolled here in Ashburn, truly an achievement in it's own.
Because, seriously, grouping 3 or 4 superpowered teens filled with male hormones together in cramped living quarters... well.... shit happens. Usually, though, his roommates found a different place and he just stayed here. It used to be him and a couple of older guys, and they got along well enough, but they graduated and moved to the south part of the island where there was a small university. For the last semester, it had actually been just him and a few temporary people that had trouble with a roomie and needed a place to stay until other living quarters were established.
So, he assumed that naturally, he had a new roommate or was about to get one. He wasn't sure that he had told Brianna where his room was, so he was pretty sure it wasn't her. Maybe it was one of the teachers?
No telling. Or at least, until he opened the door.
The junior finally made it to the door and cracked it so he could stick his head out. In front of him was another young man, possibly older than him.
"How may I help you?"

The door in front of Nathaniel suddenly swung open after a few seconds and a blonde teen poked his head around the door. Judging from the way the other male was looking at him, he assumed he had probably interrupted something. Shifting his eyes away for a second, he frowned. Well this was awkward. Now what was he supposed to do?
He glanced over his shoulder at the door to his room, and pointed at it with a thumb-over-the-shoulder motion. "Uhh.. Well Im your new roommate.. I just figured I would come by and say hello," he replied, turning back to face him. "Sorry to bother you, I just didn't want to be rude." Now what? Was he supposed to walk away now? Oh wait.. He was forgetting something.
"My name is Nathaniel, but you can call me Nate if you want," he stated, clearly making it obvious that he didn't care which name he was called. He doubted that this kid would want to associate with him..or something. Who knew? This could be his best friend in the making. Haha..best friend. When had he ever had one of those?

OOH!
A ROOM MATE!
AN ACTUAL ROOM MATE!
SOMEONE TO TALK TO IN REAL LIFE WHILE IN HIS DORM!
YIPPEE SKIPPY!
Brandon smiled, nodded, then opened his door fully. He reached out with his right hand, offering a handshake.
"Howdy! I'm Brandon Bailey. Wow, um, I know the dorm's a tad messy, but they literally did not warn me at all that you were coming."
Well, hey, it wasn't his fault that he missed the sign.
"It's literally been only me for a while. They sorta use this place as temporary housing should students have issues with their room mates that can't be solved and have to be moved. So you're are you one of those, or did they actually send you to the dorm to stay? Do you want anything? Coffee? Iced sweet tea? Anything to eat?"
Brandon figured he should stop talking. He didn't want to scare off the man, but he was excited about having an actual person to talk to. Granted, he usually called or texted Bri, but it wasn't the same.
"But yeah, I was just playing video games. I brought my old gameboy advanced from home last vacation, and my old games. I just got done playing pokemon. Lame, I know, but you just can't beat the classics."

Nate blinked in surprise. Well, he sure was the talker. He reached out his right hand also, and shook the other man's firmly before pulling his hand back and letting it drop to his side. Maybe the sociality of this kid would bring out the talkative side of Nate. Maybe. That was if Nate actually had a talkative side. People at school knew him as the angry, dont-ever-be-friends-with type, not that he really minded. It gave him a sense of peace, not having to deal with all the drama that having friends presented.
However, maybe he would make an exception.
"It's fine, I didn't really tell the staff when I was moving in. Technically, I think that they think I wasn't coming for another week or so. But I needed somewhere to stay, since I didn't have any place else to run to. So..here I am." He said all of this straight-faced, and spoke without much emotion. "So I guess I can forgive you for having a slightly-messy dorm." He half-smiled.
He listened to the explanation as to what this room was basically used for. So he'd been here alone for a while? That was lucky.. He wished he could have lived alone at his old place. But in any case, he needed to answer. "I plan on making this place my residence until I graduate. Unless of course, we don't get along. But considering Im still talking to you, I'd say that probably won't be a problem." He shook his head in response to the question Brandon asked about food or a drink, but smiled barely when he heard of the activity the boy was engaged in prior to being disrupted. "Good times. I used to play those games as a kid. Haven't really played in a while though."

Brandon laughed, amused by his new room mate's seriousness.
"Well, you're welcome with open arms here. I don't turn down anyone. Though, I guess it's not my choice, is it? Haha. It's not the messiest it's been here, though. Shoulda seen it when this guy named Ishmael lived here for a month. I generally try to keep a tight ship, if you know what I mean, and he was the laziest friggen porker I've ever seen. Of course, granted that his Gift was going out of whack for a few weeks, I can't blame him. It screwed up his metabolism. Made him all hyper for a few hours, mostly during school, and he'd come back, eat, and crash for 14 hours. Even got out of doing his homework."
Brandon shook his head.
"There's a lot of stories in here, man. But yeah, welcome to Casa de La Awesome."
His former room mates, the three that had graduated, had named it. He smiled again at the memory of that day. Kyle, Justin, and Spencer had all gotten wasted during the Thanksgiving break. Brandon had spent it with his family, who had visited on the island, and had come back to one of the most memorable scenes he had ever witness. Not going into any details, but one of the three was asleep. On the ceiling.
Brandon nodded his head, before flashing a reassuring grin.
"Don't worry. I'm a really easy guy to get along with. I've been told I'm a great room mate. Probably because I really like to cook and I have no qualms about cleaning up. Of course, my powers come in really handy with both, so... that's probably the reason."

He was...welcome with open arms? When was the last time someone had said that to him? Given his parents ejected him from their home, he realized almost immediately that the answer was never. The thought saddened him, that his parents who he had known all his life had kicked him out, but this kid, who only knew him for about five minutes, already said he was accepted here. What were the chances?
Nate listened to the story of Brandon's last roommate and blinked in surprise. Gifts could go out of whack? He didn't know that. The thought made him worry in a way. He was so used to using his powers, what would happen to him if they just stopped? He wouldn't know what to do with himself. "That's too bad," he stated, still thinking about it to himself. "I didn't know that could happen to people."
When he heard the name of what they called this place, he cracked up in laughter. "That's some name," he remarked, an almost-full smile on his face. "I'll have to let you know if it lives up to its name." He took a glance around the living room area, and shrugged. "It has potential," he half-joked. What was wrong with him right now? He hardly ever thought anything was worth getting happy over..
So Brandon didn't mind cooking and cleaning? Well that was nice. Nate didn't really care for home cooking OR cleaning, but he would do his share of the work. He wasn't about to be a complete asshole. "What is your Gift?" he asked, referring to the reference between them and the household chores. He was curious, kinda.

"It's rare, but sometimes, the development of Gifts can alter the process of puberty. He was 4'11 when he started living here, and 5'9 when he left, and he wasn't done. He didn't lose his powers, don't worry. I'm not even sure that'd be possible with out somehow altering every strand of DNA in your body. But sometimes, your body can go through random growth spurts or other things. Hell, I've read that people develop entire new powers sometimes. "
Brandon shared in the laughter.
"Trust me, this place lives up to it's name. It's easy to find, got a nice view, it's close to the school so you can stop by and hang for a few minutes between classes if you can, and if I can ever get my uncle to remember, he's going to send a plasma screen TV with a ps3 over. Gotta love the rich relatives, right? Get this, he won the lottery with the last unemployment check he had left. Talk about being lucky."
Quizzed about his gift, Brandon hesitated. He'd had people get scared of him for his gift, or want to use his gift for selfish reasons or pranks or various other things. He loved his powers, he loved using his powers, but only for things that he wanted. And he had control over them, so he didn't understand why people were afraid.
Okay, he could. Let's face it, he was a strangely happy, mildly eccentric mutant with the power to throw fireballs then freeze people solid.
Brandon smirked to himself, and shrugged.
"I have the blessing that is elemental control. Fire and Water, and the blame for nearly every house fire that Ashburn's ever had.

"Damn," was all he replied to the explanation of Brandon's previous roommate. That sounded pretty intense. He faintly wondered if the kid was doing alright now, but then he realized he didn't really care that much. Shrugging mentally, he brushed off the topic.
Nate nodded, "That was lucky, yes. So we'll have a ps3 soon? I'll have to kick your ass in a video game." He laughed quietly, although it was more like a chuckle. He was joking, and he was sure Brandon had figured that out. Nate was a pretty serious guy most of the time, so hearing the boy joke was basically a one in million chance.
There was a sort of awkward silence for a few seconds, and Nate wondered if he had asked a bad question. Was asking about his Gift something he wasn't supposed to do? He didn't really care if he told people about his own power, but he realized he might have hit a soft spot. He was about to apologize when he saw the corners of Brandon's mouth turn upwards, and explained that he could manipulate both fire and water alike. Pretty impressive, he thought. He cracked up about the last part, with him getting blames for all the fires.
"Is that so?" he asked, still laughing to himself. "That's pretty funny. If I ever see anything on fire, I'll just assume it was you, then."
