-- Brianna hadn't felt like this in a long time, a very long time. She stepped outside of the Academy, all she needed was fresh air. Every time the memories came up, she just went outside, found somewhere to go, and they went away. But not today. She had been on her computer, facebook, when she got a suggestion to add her mother. On a normal day, this would've been nothing. But every emotion she had felt, even those that weren't her own came rushing back. She slammed her laptop shut and ran outside, but everything felt overwhelming, she needed to get away for a while. She pushed past other students in the narrow hallways, and jumped in her car and sped away to the beach. That was the only sensible place to go. It had no ties to her former life. Her parents had never taken her to the beach, or anywhere like that. And her nannies weren't paid to take her to fun places. They were paid to watch her while her parents were too busy at work, and not paying attention to their only daughter, who just wanted someone to play with.
-- When she reached the beach, she barely remembered to shut her car off before she flung her door open and ran to the sand. No one was here, which was perfect, then she wouldn't have to feel their emotions, feel their happiness, or sadness, their joy or regret. All she wanted to feel were her own emotions at the moment. It had been a while since she had. The tears were streaming down her face. Brianna stumbled and fell down in the soft sand. She had no desire to get up so she just fell back, laying down. Brianna just wanted to stay here. The sky seemed too perfect for her less than happy mood, and the water too perfect. So she closed her eyes, the tears made tracks down her face. But she saw her mom, the evil smirk on her face as she left with her bags packed, her father, that look in his eyes. It killed her. And they had another child, a normal one, well, so far. And she was a beautiful little blonde haired girl. That's what her mom had always wanted. But Brianna felt sorry for the girl, Emma. She would never have parents that truly loved her. Emma would never have a big sister to love her, thanks to their mother.
-- And Brianna would never have a little sister to look after, and get annoyed with when she came into her room. Her life was forever changed. Sometimes she thought it was for the better, other times it she wished she had never been born. All those emotions. That was one of the only things she really remembered in such vivid detail. It tore at her. She wished she could change her power, or at least forget what she had felt on that day. But it had made her stronger. She felt ridiculous. Brianna sat up and swiped at her eyes and cursed under her breath for ruining her make up. She tried to get the sand out of her hair, but it wouldn't come out without another shower. Her mind raced with ideas to contact her father, to ask him how things were. But she didn't know if that would make things work. If they had truly forgotten her, she didn't want to know. Brianna didn't want to complicate their seemingly perfect life. She hated to think that they had forgotten her, but it would be worse to actually know.

Brandon loved the beach. It was a place he felt at peace, a place where he could feel the power of the ocean. Standing with his feet in the water, he could feel the ocean all around him. It was like a calming pressure all around him, encompassing his being.
He had half a mind to just unleash all of his power and become one with the sea. Brandon held back that urge, though, and took a deep breath to steady his thoughts and suppress his desires.
Calm...
Brandon took a step out from the water and was back on the sand. He'd decided to check and see if any of his classmates were here yet. It was still rather early in the morning, so very few people had been seen. So, the young man began to walk.
The element user saw a flash of blonde hair in the distance trip and fall onto the sand in a hard manner. Concern welled up in him, and he broke into a jog to catch up to her.
To his surprise she sat up, and as he got closer, he realized that it was his new friend Brianna. An empath he was not, but even he could sense the misery she was feeling.
Doing his best to bolster his own emotions, he didn't think of happy thoughts, but of calming ones, trying to send her a comforting feeling. He walked up next to her and held out a hand.
"You okay, Bri?"

-- Slowly her sobs quieted. But her eyes were still bloodshot, red and puffy. But then someone else's strong emotions shot through her. It was an overwhelming one, and she tried to quiet it. Then it was just a dull reminder in the back of her mind of how much of a freak she was. It wasn't as if these thoughts hadn't been brewing for a while. She always just pushed them to the back of her mind, hoping that they wouldn't resurface but they always did, and she always pushed them back again, and put on a smile. Brianna had tons to be thankful for, that she was away from her parents, but then her mom had to go and friend request her? After all these damn years, of feeling alone and unwanted, her mom pulled that crap. She hadn't even wanted her in the first place!
-- Bri looked up at the approaching figure in the hazy morning. Brandon. Suddenly his strong emotions faded into a simple one, calmness. It washed over her like the waves on the beach. She swatted at her eyes, wiping away the tears, but it left her eyes more red and puffy. Most people, who knew she was an empath and knew she was upset, tried to think of happy thoughts, but that only made it worse for her. And calm was an emotion that was easily blended with other emotions. It didn't cover up her sadness, or any of her other emotions. It just made her less...emotional. Which was fine by her. And she sensed none of his other emotions she had felt previously.
-- She gripped his hand and pulled herself up. All she could do was shake her head at his question. Then she buried her face in his shoulder and cry. Her sobs racked her slender frame. She normally didn't do this. They hadn't even known each other that long, but she couldn't help it. Everything was so confused. And everything she had wanted to stay hidden, everything she wanted to forget, had came bubbling back up. She thought she had come to terms with the fact that her mom didn't want her, and her dad wanted her, but couldn't talk to her. And she had no idea what her little sister was like. That was the worst part. Brianna had always wanted a little sibling.

It was hard to maintain his sense of calm when her powers were going nuts and surrounding him with such a depressing aura. He knew she needed it, though. Brandon drew on the calm ocean around him, trying to emulate his element's gentle feel in his emotions.
This was hard to do when she literally threw herself at him, suddenly sobbing into his shoulders. He wrapped his arms around her slightly above her waist, patting her back and gently rubbing it to try and soothe her sadness.
Remembering her fondness for cheesy pickup lines and romance quotes, and a list of "What Girls want in a guy" off of facebook, the element user smiled lightly.
"Who's ass do I have to go kick, darlin'?"
Though they hadn't been friends long, Brandon liked the girl well enough. She was cute and usually very cheerful, though he suspected that she usually fed off of his usually positive emotions when they hung out at the Cafe.
So, he meant the words. He'd literally drown a guy if he'd screwed with her. It was a "Southern Thang", and by God, he did his best to be a proper gentleman.

-- Brianna was calmed within moments, and the tears quit flowing down her cheeks. But she left her head buried in his shoulder for another minute or two. It had been too long since she'd been hugged, or comforted like this. She never really let anyone close enough to see this side of her, not that she was like this hardly at all. Then she stood up, looking at him. Her puffy red eyes looking into his calm ones. "My family's? If you wouldn't mind. Well, particularly my mom's." She said, hoping Brandon would think she was joking, but she didn't think he would buy her fake sarcasm. Especially when he had just seen her bawling her eyes out a moment before.
-- She loved the southern gentleman thing, and loved it even more because Brandon was sincere. He wasn't one of those fake people who pasted on the southern drawl and decided to be God's gift to womankind. "I'm sorry." Brianna muttered as she swept her hair behind her ears absently as the salty wind continued to blow her blond tresses around her face. She really needed to start carrying a hair clip. Bri began to think of small things, like had she done her homework right, or if she had plans this weekend. Anything to get her mind off of her previous life. No matter what happened, Brianna would never have a normal life, and would never be normal again. Her mother had made her give it all up. Brianna could've pretended that she wasn't a freak, but she was never given the chance.
-- Bri wondered how Brandon embraced his...gifts so easily. Brianna would trade hers for almost anything. She didn't want her powers, or even her luck, which definitely came in handy sometimes. There she was, thinking about it again. Sometimes it was harder to try to forget, then it was to remember and try to live through it. People said time healed all wounds, but hers was deep, and it happened when she was a child. That made it even worse. If she could just get one more chance, but it would never happen. But she needed to quit feeling sorry for herself. This is why she wanted to forget, so she could get rid of all the baggage that came along with her less than splendid past.

Brandon felt relief as she stopped crying, rubbing his left hand over the back of her head, gently running his fingers through her hair as her head stayed buried in his shouler.
"Good thing I wear deoderant..." The offhand thought almost made him laugh, but he suppressed it for her sake.
The hug seemed to do it's trick, cheering her up at least enough to calm her down, and he could feel the heavy weight of depression lift off of him. Breifly, he wondered if it was because of his close proximity to the ocean that bolstered his emotions like it did his power of water manipulation.
He scoffed lightly, not to offend, but to blow off her suggestion.
"Attacking a lady wouldn't be the nice thing for me to do. Not my style. Now what's wrong?"
She was terrible at sarcasm. He'd seen rocks pull off better than that. He waved off the apology, not because he didn't want it, but because it was unneccessary. He felt a bond to the girl now that she had bawled her eyes out in front of him. It stirred up his protective nature.
Absentmindedly, he saw the wind blow her hair back from where she had just tucked it. With barely a thought, he pushed the hair back in place, and smiled.

-- It was nice, to have comfort, to feel his hand rub over her head, soothing her. But she didn't move. As she breathed in and out deeply, to try to get rid of her crying hiccups, she realized how nice Brandon smelled. Everything about him was soothing and relaxing. Brianna slowly leaned away from him and looked into his eyes for a brief moment before turning away to stare out at the waves crashing on the sand, like she crashed into this place. No direction, nothing, just thrown in here because her mom was a bitch and had no soul.
-- "But she isn't a lady, she is the spawn of the devil himself." Brianna said seriously. "She's the reason why I'm here. It's a long story, I wouldn't want to burden you with it." She said softly, sniffling. Her hair began to blow in her face, but Brandon pushed it back, normally she would have yelled but it was different with him. Bri smiled back at him, it was just a small smile, but it was still there. Then she leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek softly.
-- She turned away quickly and her cheeks flushed, surprised at her own forward behavior. Did she like him? Or was it just because she was so emotional? She was confusing herself, and she didn't like it. There was no way she would put anyone through her problems, it was better than they didn't go out, but Brianna couldn't deny what she felt for him. But what if he didn't like her back? All of this liking business was crazy and this is why she didn't have too many real boyfriends.
ooc;; meh, crap.

"Ah, but if your mom is devilspawn, then that makes her too hard for a mere mortal, albeit a completely awesome, dashingly handsome, and utterly charming one such as myself, to slay," Brandon said, pushing his jaw out and adopting a silly "heroic" accent before winking and continuing with, "Though devil blood would account for how hot you are."
He cleared his throat and spoke more seriously, though.
"You wouldn't burden me. A story is a story, not a weight. It's a piece of history that makes us who we are, be the stories fact or fiction."
He would of continued, but he paused in mid thought. Brandon didn't often get kissed. He rarely went on dates, and even more rarely went on multiple ones. His contact with the female half of his species (call it homo sapien or superior or whatever) was limited to flirting. Not out of choice. He just found that he was more suited to being the ultimate guy friend than being the boyfriend. Even kisses on the cheek were rare, as he usually never found a girl crying alone on a beach where he usually liked to hang out. Brandon felt his cheeks redden and his heart start racing as a goofy grin spread across his face.
"I'm probably not gonna wash my cheek for a while now."
The elemental hoped the little bit of humor would dispell any awkwardness. It didn't make the warm fuzzy feelin in his chest die, the flapping of butterflies in his stomach go away, or the tingly feeling in the shape of lips on his cheek disappear, but humor would make the awkward go away.
After all, it was probably just friendly.
Ignoring the urge to see if things would go further, therefore ruining the friendship, he smiled at her.
"Now, what do you say to a coffee, beautiful?"

-- Brianna rolled her eyes playfully, feeling slight better. "Well, I'm sure we would find some way to defeat her between the two of us." She said, staring out over the waves. "Whatever." She said, there was no way that she was hot. He was probably just kidding anyway. Brandon was hot though, but maybe not her type, but what was her type? Boyfriends, well, there had been quite a few of them over the course of her life, but non were serious, she certainly knew what she didn't want.
-- "Well, to sum it up, my mom thought I was a freak, hated that my dad loved me in spite of my freak-ness and shipped my sorry ass here. People have homes, many of them like mine, but there are a few who actually have loving families. Even others who can go home and see there family, not me. That's what I don't tell people, is that I can't go home. This is my only home, only place I can go. I have no one else." Brianna confided.
-- His emotions were confused, and she tried really hard not to read them. "Well, if you do wash it, I'll just have to give you another one." Brianna told him grinning. She hoped it wouldn't be awkward between them now, and she didn't want to give him mixed signals, especially when she wasn't sure of her own feelings. Bri knew that she would figure it out though, everything always worked out in the end. "Yes, coffee sounds wonderful." She said smiling.
